5th April 2022

A thank you here to Jon Taylor, our media manager, who writes and edits our monthly newsletter. To sign up to receive our newsletter directly to your inbox, send us your email here. The sign up bar appears at the bottom of each website page, so it’s really easy to find and fill in. This month, listen to one of our volunteers discuss on LBC’s James O’Brian show, the choices he now has to make when packing our food parcels, between certain foods and their cooking times. NEWS AND UPDATES

On Wednesday, 23rd March our very own fresh produce manager Pat Pilcher called in to the James O’Brien show on LBC radio (the above photo is James O’Brien, not Pat) to discuss the cost of cooking and how it is impacting our clients. You can listen to Pat’s heart-rendering interview here (at 0:37:08) as he describes how some clients simply can’t afford to cook the food we supply.
Visit our website to read a compelling account from our sign-posting officer Fred Poll. He shares his experience of distributing free Vodafone SIM cards through their ‘buy one give one scheme’ and the life-changing impact it is having on Foodbank clients.
We will be celebrating Easter on Sunday, 17th April. Every year, we love to supplement our food parcels with Easter Eggs to bring some extra joy to our clients. If you would like to donate, we would be grateful for any Easter egg contributions in the lead up to that date.
As the cost of living accelerates, people with the least are being hit the hardest. Faced with impossible decisions and unrelenting pressure, people across the country are left with no option but to roll the dice. Many find it hard to imagine what that would be like. The Trussell Trust website invites you to throw the dice yourself in order to put yourself in the shoes of people facing serious hardship. See what impossible decisions you could face and hear real stories of people struggling to afford the essentials.
Save the Date: Our summer Tesco supermarket collections in Brixton and Streatham will be taking place on Thursday, 30th June, Friday, 1st July and Saturday, 2nd July. If you are free to help for 2 hours on any of these days, please make a note in your diaries. A sign up link will be available in the next newsletter.
Please help our friends at Little Village in equipping the Ukrainian families with young children who are arriving in London. This appeal will support the coordination of a London wide response and distribute essential childrens’ clothing and kit to families being welcomed to the UK. They have an Amazon wish list you can buy from here or you can make a direct donation here.
