New figures from the Lambeth Foodbank Partnership highlight shocking food poverty and enormous community generosity, with 21,946 parcels provided to people across the borough over the past year, including 8,016 parcels for children.

With the situation set to worsen as the cost of living crisis grows, the government must take action now.

A huge thanks to everyone who donated Easter eggs in April. When our communities are struggling with rising food prices, these small gestures make a world of difference.

And a special thank you to Sweet Carolina Kitchen & Bar in Norwood for donating a whopping 50 Easter biscuit packs!

On Tuesday, 31 May the Norwood and Brixton Foodbank plans to launch its second food bank hub at Immanuel and St Andrew Church, opposite the Common in Streatham. As well as food parcels, we will be providing advice and form filling services.

A huge thank you to the Revd Sarah Simpson and Immanuel church for partnering with us. Our first hub was launched six months ago at Emmanuel Church in West Dulwich and this will be the sixth hub launched by the Lambeth Foodbank Partnership.

We are delighted that the Herne Hill Free Film Festival is back from 10-20 May and once again kindly supporting us with fundraising and food collections during the screenings.

The festival presents a core programme of four films screened outside at iconic Herne Hill landmarks. It’s open to everyone, whether you’re a dedicated movie buff or local neighbour who would like to volunteer. Visit the Facebook page to discover what’s on, bring your popcorn and we’ll see you there!

On Thursday, 30 June, Friday, 1 July and Saturday,  2 July we’ll be holding food collections at Tesco stores in Streatham and Brixton.

Would you like to get involved? Each volunteering slot is just two hours and involves engaging with customers and sorting and packing food. Click here to find out more and join the team!

The Brixton Advice Centre is expanding its outreach through the Lambeth Foodbank Partnership with a new full-time benefits advice role.

This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic benefits specialist. If you want to learn more, check out the job description and submit your application before Monday, 6 June. Good luck!

We’re on the hunt for an enthusiastic volunteer to join our team as the coordinator for our collections at the Brixton Tesco store.
